How exactly does this work?
Users to the site - ie: you, and people like you - are people who read and write blogs. You like reading blogs, or writing on your blog, or both. People want to promote their blog entries, and other people want to read those blog entries but don't know where to find them. Serendipity! We provide a way for readers to find posts, and writers to tell readers their posts are there. A "shout" is our encapsulated format for displaying a post. It contains a headline and image that're linked to the post, and a brief description. We also let readers "like" or "dislike" a shout, which allows us to sort them by a special scoring system which factors in number of positive votes, number of negative votes, and time on the site (this keeps things fresh). You must be signed up and logged in to post or vote on a shout, but you do not have to have an account if all you want to do is see new shouts and read the associated blog posts.

How do I sign up?
Click the handy link above, or this one right here. Either that, or try and post a new shout without being signed up / logged in, and you'll get a simple little window which lets you sign up. Then you'll get an email verification code (to prove you're not a bot). Verify your account, and you'll be able to start posting shouts immediately. It's super easy.

And this is totally free, right?
BlogShouts is 100% free to use, including adding shouts of your own. We plan on adding future "premium tier" functionality that is accessible to subscribers, but the basic functionality of the site will remain free.

How do I add a shout?
Start by clicking the "Add Shout" link in the menu. We're hoping it'll be fairly self-explanatory from there. Please note that if you're not logged in, you will instead by given the log in / sign up window, rather than being taken to the Add Shout page, as you must be registered and logged in to add a shout. Once you've successfully reached the Add Shout page, all you have to do is provide us with a quality image, a link, and a brief description.

What do you mean by "Quality Image?"
Here are exact rules on the Image:

• Must be 2 MB or less in size
• Must be in JPG, PNG, or GIF format (we suggest JPG)
• Try not to make it larger than 1000x1000, but our software will resize and crop it for you.
• The image should relate to your shout in some way.
• The image should look nice. We reserve the right to veto any shout which contains an image that we don't think is up to our quality standards.
• The description should explain what the shout is all about
• The link should link to an actual blog post or story that an actual human being wrote
• The blog post should be relevant to your selected category (except "Misc" ... which is for Misc!) in some way.

So I can just add any picture and text I want?
No bare breasts, no exposed crotches, and no profane words. That's all we're asking here!

My Shout isn't showing up. What's going on?
All shouts are held in a moderation queue until they are personally approved by a real human being. We try to approve new posts several times per day!

Do I have to be a certain age to use the site?
You've gotta be thirteen or older to post, sorry. Don't blame us -- blame the US Government.

What's the point of voting?
What's the point of not voting? Hmmm? Ok, we'll explain: by voting, you help us determine what the best shouts are during a given period of time. Right now this lets us give you the exciting "top shouts" list -- but in the future it's going to allow for all kinds of nifty stuff, including a "Best of BlogShouts" page, and possibly a newsletter. We've got plans, my friends ... big plans!

How do you make money?
Well, as you've probably noticed, we run advertising on the site. That's our primary revenue source at the moment, but we're also working on an entire tier of subscription services that we think bloggers will love.
